Marlins Curb Mets, 5-4
|
The Miami Marlins knocked off the New York Mets, 5-4, in National League action at Marlins Park. Miami pitcher and Dallas, Georgia, native Zack Wheeler had an outstanding performance. Josiah Gray picked up the win in relief for Miami, while Will Vest took the loss. New York, with the loss, is still a stout 4-1.
Had Ben Rortvedt not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Rortvedt hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Marlins.
"Zack was in attack mode the whole game," said Miami manager Pat Padula.
